Sentry GroundCare operatives from both South and South East have recently completed an NPTC forestry qualification training course, provided by Mark Brewer of MGC. Mark’s experience in sustainable forestry and large scale forest operations around the world brought a unique depth of teaching and insight to the course.

The five day course covered key skills in chainsaw maintenance, safe operation, cross-cutting and felling of small trees. The course was heavily weighted on practical learning within a wood plantation of Corsican pine on a Sentry farm in Surrey.

A variety of felling techniques were demonstrated by Mark and each student had time to practice and ask questions. The confidence and proficiency of each candidate at the end of the week was beyond the expectation at the start of the week, which is testament to the high level of instruction given, even for those who had previous experience using chainsaws. This qualification now allows Sentry operatives to carry out chainsaw operations to a safe, efficient and high standard of work, all qualities Sentry aim to deliver.
